Job Description:
I work at The Academy of Natural Science where I:
- Incorporate the research of our scientists from our 3 research groups (Patrick Center for Environmental Research, Estuarine Research Center, and the Biodiversity group) into our educational programs
- Educate inner city youth on a 75 foot sailboat on the Delaware River about water quality by doing a dissolved oxygen titration
- Develop watershed lessons for grades 3 and up which are offered at the Academy and offsite as an outreach program
- Teach watershed lessons
- Develop and teach watershed focused teacher workshops
- Develop exhibitions about watersheds and the relevance to our research
- Manage grants received for these programs
- Partnerships with other aquatic organizations by serving on their community advisory councils and implementation teams
- Coordinate and implement 2 3-week water camps where participants in grades 5-8 develop their own research project, collect and analyze data, and present findings in a poster presentation
- Coordinate family water weekends that expose visitors to aquatic habitats and their inhabitants.
