Variable-rate land application of liquid hog manure: Effects on contaminant persistence and transport
Job Title: Environmental Scientist
Job Description:
I have been working for the last year with the Utah Department of Environmental Quality, Division of Water Quality. I am in charge of administering the NPDES permitting program for the Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations (CAFOs) in the state. I issue permits and conduct inspections of the operations to determine if they are illegally discharging to waters of the state. I also respond to water quality-related citizen complaints for all sizes of animal operations. So basically if anything comes up that's manure-oriented, it comes to me. I also work with the major agricultural organizations in the state, including Farm Bureau, NRCS, Extension, and producer groups, to try to maintain good relations between the agricultural community and the Division of Water Quality.
